Shoulder Surgery

Dr Rawoot may recommend shoulder surgery if you have a painful condition that does not respond to non-surgical treatment.

Injury, overuse, injury, and age-related wear and tear are responsible for most shoulder problems. Shoulder arthroscopy (shoulder surgery) may relieve painful symptoms and help minimise damage to the cartilage, rotator cuff tendons, and other soft tissues surrounding the joint.

Do I need shoulder surgery?

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it may mean that shoulder surgery is necessary:

  • The pain in your shoulder radiates downwards and throughout your affected arm
  • You have sleepless nights due to pain
  • You have weakness in the affected arm
  • The pain continues even without doing physical activities
  • You find it difficult to lift objects and reach out your arm

Shoulder arthroscopy procedure

During shoulder arthroscopy, Dr Rawoot inserts a small camera, called an arthroscope, into the shoulder joint. The camera displays images on a video screen. Dr Rawoot uses these images to guide miniature surgical instruments.

Since the surgical instruments and arthroscope are thin, Dr Rawoot can make very small incisions rather than the larger incisions needed for standard open surgery. This results in less pain and shortens the time it takes to recover and return to everyday activities.

Shoulder arthroscopy has made the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery from surgery easier and faster than ever before. Improvements in shoulder arthroscopy take place every year as new instruments and techniques are developed.

It is important to seek treatment at an Orthopaedic Surgeon before your condition worsens. If you are experiencing shoulder pain, swelling or stiffness, contact Dr Rawoot for a consultation. During the consultation, he will assess the cause of your discomfort and suggest the most suitable treatment options.
